Security posture

Security posture is the overall state of an organization’s security: the controls in place, how well they operate, the exposures that remain and the ability to detect and respond.

Extended definition

In more detail.

Posture is assessed, not declared. A posture review examines controls across identity, endpoints, network, data, vendors, monitoring, response and recovery, rates findings by consequence and produces a view that leadership, customers and insurers can act on. Posture changes continuously, so the review is repeated and its trend reported.
