CMMC readiness
CMMC readiness prepares a defense contractor or subcontractor for the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification required to handle Federal Contract Information and Controlled Unclassified Information: the practices derived from NIST SP 800-171, the System Security Plan, the Plans of Action and Milestones, the scoping of the assessment boundary and the evidence an assessor will examine. It is needed when a contract or solicitation requires a CMMC level, when a prime contractor asks for a self-assessment score, or when an organization handles CUI and has not yet established where it lives. Readiness produces an accurate scope, a gap assessment against each practice with objective evidence, the plan documents the assessment requires, and remediation sequenced so the score improves where it matters first.
Scope
What the review covers.
- CUI and FCI identification and the assessment boundary
- Gap assessment against the practices for the required level
- System Security Plan and Plans of Action and Milestones
- Evidence collection and objective assessment criteria
- Enclave and architecture options that reduce the boundary
- Preparation for a self-assessment, a third-party assessment or a prime review
Deliverables
What you receive.
| Deliverable | Form |
|---|---|
| Scoping report | Where CUI and FCI live, and the resulting assessment boundary |
| Gap assessment | Practice by practice, with evidence status and score impact |
| System Security Plan | Written to the actual environment |
| Plans of Action and Milestones | Owned, dated and sequenced |
| Evidence pack | Organized for the assessor |
Prerequisites
What we need from you.
- The contracts, solicitations or flow-down clauses that state the required level
- Current knowledge of where CUI and FCI are stored, processed and transmitted
- Access to the systems and administrators in the proposed boundary

Questions
Asked before engaging.
Can a smaller boundary reduce the work?
Often, yes. Moving CUI into a defined enclave is frequently the most effective single step. See Secure enclave design for sensitive workloads.
Do you perform the certification assessment?
No. Certification assessments are performed by authorized assessors. We prepare you and support you during the assessment.
Does this also cover NIST SP 800-171?
Yes. The practices derive from it. See NIST SP 800-171 gap assessment for that assessment on its own.
