Refresh cycle management

Refresh cycle management keeps every published page current: each page carries a refresh interval, is reviewed when the interval expires or when its subject changes, is revised with a new revision date, and is retired when it no longer earns its place. It is needed when a site has pages nobody has looked at in years, when engines prefer fresher sources and the organization’s pages are losing citations to newer ones, when regulations, prices or practices have changed and pages still state the old ones, or when an authority program has reached a scale where currency cannot be managed by memory. The work produces the refresh schedule generated from page dates, the review and revision workflow, the retirement procedure for pages that no longer serve, and the reporting that shows the site’s currency.

Questions

Asked before engaging.

Does every page need refreshing?

Every page needs reviewing on its interval. Many reviews confirm the page is current with a new revision date; some lead to revision; a few lead to retirement.

Does a refresh count as new content?

A major refresh is treated as a page credit in our plans, because the work and the value are comparable. Minor date confirmations are not.

How does this interact with citation tracking?

Pages that earn citations are refreshed first and protected. See Citation tracking by page and engine.
