Competitor benchmarking
Competitor benchmarking places the organization’s measured visibility beside its competitors’ on the same prompts, engines and search terms, so that progress is judged against the market rather than only against the organization’s own past: citation share, share of voice, cited pages and formats, content volume and freshness, and entity consistency. It is needed when leadership asks how the organization compares, when a competitor’s visibility has changed suddenly, when targets should be set against what the market shows is achievable, or when the organization needs to know which competitors are winning which prompts and why. Benchmarking produces the competitor set and its measurement, the comparison across measures, the competitor moves observed during the period, and the implications for the organization’s priorities.

Questions
Asked before engaging.
Can we see competitors’ inquiry numbers?
No. The benchmark measures what is observable: visibility, citations, content and entity signals. Inquiry data is yours alone.
How is this different from competitor citation benchmarking under GEO?
That capability sets the starting map for the GEO program. This one tracks the comparison quarter by quarter as part of measurement.
What if a competitor is far ahead?
Then the targets reflect it and the plan targets the prompts that can be won first. Honest benchmarks make better plans.
