Multi-location operational support: standards and escalation
Twelve sites, four providers, one standard. The standard is written once; the escalation path is what makes it hold.
Multi-location operational support is the governance of field and technical work across many sites, often served by different local providers, to a single standard: the same request verification, the same maintenance window procedure, the same logging, the same response times, the same evidence. It depends on a written standard every provider accepts, a coordination function that assigns and tracks work, a reporting channel that shows status across sites, and an escalation path with named people and timelines for when a site or a provider falls short. Without the escalation path the standard is advisory, and advisory standards are followed at the sites that would have followed them anyway.
In detail
What the evidence shows.
The standard
A short document stating how requests are verified, how windows are run, how access is granted and revoked, what is logged, how fast each severity is answered and what evidence is produced. It is attached to every provider agreement and every site’s runbook. It is short because long standards are not read on site.
Coordination
One function receives requests, verifies them, assigns them to the right site and provider, tracks them to closure and holds the records. Sites and providers do not negotiate the standard case by case; the coordination function applies it. Status across all sites is visible in one place.
Escalation
Named people, by severity, with timelines: the site lead within one interval, the coordination lead within the next, the organization’s owner after that. Escalation also covers providers who repeatedly miss the standard, with a path to replacement. The escalation record is reviewed monthly.
Evidence and review
Monthly reporting of requests, response times, windows, incidents and escalations by site. Annual review of each provider against the standard. The records serve the organization’s auditors and its own customers. See multi-location operational support, critical infrastructure support and data center operational support under contract.
