Business continuity
Business continuity is the discipline of keeping an organization’s critical processes operating during a disruption, through planned workarounds, alternate resources and defined decision authority, while technology is restored.
Extended definition
In more detail.
Continuity is owned by the business, not by technology. A business impact analysis ranks processes, sets the maximum disruption each can tolerate and maps them to the systems they depend on; the continuity plan states how each continues. It is tested by exercising with the leadership team. ISO 22301 is the management system standard for it.
