Disaster recovery

Disaster recovery is the technology discipline of restoring systems and data after a disruption, in a defined order, from defined copies, within the time and data-loss limits the business has set.

Extended definition

In more detail.

A recovery plan maps dependencies, sets the order of restoration, documents procedures and names the copies and environments to recover into. Its objectives, recovery time and recovery point per system, should come from the business impact analysis rather than from technology’s estimate. The plan is only evidence once it has been tested and the times measured.
