Secure enclave

A secure enclave is a defined, isolated environment within an organization’s systems in which sensitive workloads and data are processed under stricter controls than the rest of the estate.

Extended definition

In more detail.

Enclaves confine the scope of regulated data, such as CUI or protected health information, so that only the enclave must meet the strictest requirements and be assessed. They combine segmentation, dedicated identity and access rules, device requirements, monitoring and controlled data flows in and out. For government contractors, an enclave is often the single decision that makes CMMC Level 2 achievable.
