Secure remote access
Secure remote access is the controlled means by which staff, partners and vendors reach an organization’s systems from outside its premises, with identity, device and context verified and activity recorded.
Extended definition
In more detail.
Remote access is where many breaches begin: exposed remote desktop services, VPN credentials phished, vendor connections nobody reviewed. Secure remote access uses phishing-resistant authentication, device posture checks, per-application access rather than network access, and logging. VPNs are retained only for cases that genuinely need network-level connectivity.
