Landing paid traffic on authority content

Thin landing pages built for ads bounce, cost more and convert less than the pages that actually answer the searcher’s question.

A paid click lands on whatever page the campaign points to. For years that was a landing page: short, generic, built to convert and disconnected from the rest of the site. Authority pages that answer the searcher’s question with expert-signed depth convert the people who asked it, carry quality signals the platforms reward, and serve organic and AI-referred visitors at the same time. Mapping ad groups to the authority pages that match their intent, and adding inquiry paths that sit beside the content rather than over it, usually improves cost per qualified inquiry and removes a class of pages nobody maintained.

In detail

What the evidence shows.

Why landing pages underperform

They answer no question. A searcher who typed a specific question lands on a page that repeats the keyword and asks for a phone number. Many leave. Those who stay convert at a rate the page has to buy with volume. Quality scores reflect the mismatch, which raises the cost per click.

What an authority page does differently

It answers the question the searcher asked, in the first screen, from a named expert. The visitor who asked that question is the visitor the page was written for. An inquiry path beside the answer converts the ones who are ready; the rest leave informed, which is better than leaving bounced. In our comparisons (first-hand: David Selakovic) authority pages have matched or beaten the landing pages they replaced on cost per qualified inquiry.

Doing it without damage

Inquiry elements are designed to sit beside the content, not to interrupt it, because a page that stops answering the question stops earning citations. Message match is checked: the ad promises what the page delivers. Old landing pages stay live until the comparison is measured; the evidence decides what is retired.

The rule afterward

New campaigns land on authority pages. Gaps where no page answers an intent become editorial requests. The landing-page alignment checklist covers the procedure; see landing-page alignment with authority content.
