Endpoint protection
Endpoint protection is the set of controls on laptops, desktops, servers and mobile devices that prevent, detect and respond to malicious activity on the device itself.
Extended definition
In more detail.
Modern endpoint detection and response tools record activity, detect behavior associated with attacks and allow isolation of a compromised device. Their value depends on deployment to every device, on configuration, and on someone acting on what they detect. Insurers ask specifically whether endpoint detection and response is deployed, because it is where ransomware is most often stopped.
