Ransomware readiness
Ransomware readiness is the demonstrated ability to prevent, detect, contain and recover from an attack that encrypts systems and demands payment, including recovery from isolated backups without paying.
Extended definition
In more detail.
Readiness combines the controls attackers most often defeat (phishing-resistant MFA, endpoint detection, patching, segmentation, privileged access control), isolated and tested backups, a rehearsed response with counsel and the insurer, and decisions made in advance about payment and notification. Insurers ask about ransomware above all, and a readiness review is the evidence that answers them.
