Interaction to Next Paint
Interaction to Next Paint measures how quickly a page responds visually to user interactions such as taps and clicks, across the whole visit.
Extended definition
In more detail.
INP replaced First Input Delay as a Core Web Vital in 2024. It reports the latency of interactions, with a good threshold of 200 milliseconds or less. Heavy scripts, third-party tags and long tasks on the main thread are the usual causes of poor INP. Pages with little script, and scripts that defer their work, respond promptly.
In our work
Where it appears.
Script discipline, including removal of unjustified third-party tags, is how we keep INP low. See privacy-respecting analytics and lead capture.
