Why your author pages matter more than your blog

A hundred unsigned posts attribute nothing. One verifiable expert profile changes what every signed page is worth.

Answer engines weigh content by whether they can verify its author. An author page with credentials, affiliations, Person schema and consistent external profiles lets the engine connect every signed page to a real expert; a byline with nothing behind it connects to nothing. Most firms have years of unsigned blog posts and no author pages. The order of work is the reverse of the usual: build the profiles first, then sign pages against them, then publish. Unsigned content, however much of it, does not accumulate authority.

In detail

What the evidence shows.

What an engine can verify

A profile page with the expert’s name, role, credentials, affiliations, publications and a headshot. Person schema stating jobTitle, worksFor, knowsAbout and sameAs. External profiles that agree with the page. Author markup on each signed page linking to the profile. From these the engine can establish that a real, qualified person stands behind the content.

Why the blog does not do this

Blog posts under a company name or a marketing byline have no verifiable author. They may rank for long-tail queries; they are rarely cited, because retrieval prefers attributable sources. Years of them do not add up to authority, because authority accrues to entities, and an unsigned post is attached to none.

The order of work

Select the experts. Verify credentials. Build profile pages with Person schema. Align external profiles and add sameAs. Then begin the capture program, draft from captured material, verify, and have the expert sign. Each signed page strengthens the profile; each profile strengthens every page it signs.

What about existing posts

Audit them. Posts an expert is willing to review, correct and sign can be revised and attributed. The rest are consolidated or retired. A smaller body of signed, verified pages outperforms a larger body of anonymous ones. See author and credential profiles and the completeness checklist.
