Edge delivery
Edge delivery is serving a website from servers distributed around the world, close to each visitor, rather than from a single origin.
Extended definition
In more detail.
Content delivery networks and platforms such as Cloudflare Pages place copies of a site at many locations and answer each request from the nearest one. For static sites the entire site lives at the edge, so there is no origin to slow down or fail. Edge delivery reduces latency, absorbs traffic spikes and provides TLS, headers and redirects as configuration. It is a large part of why a static site loads in under a second on a phone.
In our work
Where it appears.
Edge delivery is the default for every site we build. See performance engineering and Core Web Vitals.
