Generative engine optimization (GEO)

Generative engine optimization is the practice of making an organization and its content retrievable, citable and accurately described by answer engines.

Extended definition

In more detail.

GEO covers the entity (who the organization is, stated consistently everywhere), authorship (verifiable experts), content (specific answers to defined questions), technical readiness (crawlable, rendered, indexed) and measurement (share of voice and citations across engines). It builds on the foundations of search optimization and differs in its unit of success: a citation inside an answer rather than a position in a list. It is not a trick applied to pages; it is a program applied to an organization.

GEO is one of the five Growth performance services and the one the others are measured against. See GEO versus SEO for the distinction.
